Batch Rename

Batch Rename Files is the button that executes the rename pipeline. It is the last step after you've loaded files, built your task pipeline, applied filters, and chosen your output mode.

Before you rename

Run through this checklist:

  1. Files are loaded — the left panel shows your files with names in both columns
  2. New Name column looks correct — the preview matches what you want. Dimmed files are filtered out and will not be renamed
  3. Output mode is set — Replace in place, Copy, or Move, with an output directory if needed
  4. Tasks are in the right order — check the pipeline from top to bottom

Clicking Batch Rename Files

Click the Batch Rename Files button in the footer of the right panel. Filera processes each active file in sequence, applying the rename pipeline to each one.

When the operation completes, the Old Name column updates to reflect the new filenames on disk.

Duplicate handling

Filera automatically detects potential filename collisions before renaming. If two files in your session would produce the same output filename, Filera resolves the conflict by appending a suffix to ensure all output filenames are unique. You'll see the resolved names in the preview before committing.

After renaming

Once renamed, the files reflect their new names on disk. Filera's session remains open so you can:

  • Add more files and continue
  • Adjust tasks and rename again
  • Clear all files and start a new session

There is currently no undo. If you need to recover from an unintended rename, use the Copy mode first so originals are preserved.
