File Panel

The left panel manages which files are in your current session and shows the live rename preview.

Loading files

Open Files

Click Open Files to open a file picker dialog. You can select multiple files at once (hold Ctrl or Shift to multi-select). The files are added to the current session — loading more files adds to the list rather than replacing it.

Open Folders

Click Open Folders to load an entire directory. Filera walks the folder recursively, meaning all files in subdirectories are included as well. Multiple folders can be selected in one dialog.

Drag and drop

Drag files or folders from your system file manager and drop them onto the Filera window. Both individual files and entire directories are accepted.

Searching

Type in the Search bar to filter the visible list. The search runs in real time and narrows down the file table as you type. It matches against the original filenames, not the preview names.

Searching does not remove files from the session — it only hides non-matching files from the table. The hidden files are still in the session and will be renamed if you apply tasks.

Sorting

Use the Sort By dropdown to sort the file list by:

  • Name — alphabetical by filename
  • Date Created — oldest or newest first
  • Date Modified — oldest or newest first
  • Size — smallest or largest first
  • Type — grouped by file extension

Changing sort order affects the numbering in the Number Sequence task, which assigns numbers based on the current order of the list.

Toggling direction: Selecting the same sort column again reverses the sort direction. The arrow icon in the dropdown indicates whether the current sort is ascending or descending.

Clearing files

Click the trash icon in the top-right of the file panel toolbar to clear all files from the session. This does not delete anything on disk — it only empties Filera's working list.

The file table

The table shows two columns for each file:

  • Old Name — the original filename on disk
  • New Name — the filename that will be written when you rename

If a filter excludes a file, that row appears dimmed and italicized. The file will not be renamed when you click Batch Rename Files.

The footer of the left panel shows the total number of files currently loaded into the session (including filtered-out files).
